The UN’s relief agency for Palestinian refugees has suspended a food distribution program that feeds more than 750,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip after Israel blocked food deliveries for days.

In a statement, UNRWA said that as of Thursday morning all regular food-aid programs have ceased to operate. The agency is giving no date on which programs may resume.

The UN organization that provides basic foodstuffs to Gaza’s poorest residents said that despite assurances from Israel that a shipment of grain for the humanitarian organization would be allowed into the Strip on 9-10 December, the shipment was turned back and warehouses in Gaza are empty.

According to UNRWA all crossings for goods into the Strip are closed and “no humanitarian supplies, fuel and other needed commodities are being allowed to enter.”

UNRWA was also forced to suspend food distribution once in November after Israel tightened its closure of Gaza. Israel’s borders have been under total lockdown since 4 November, in violation of a ceasefire agreement with the de facto Palestinian government in Gaza.

Before the cessation of services UNRWA distributed food to 20,000 Gazan refugees each day.

The organization promised to do everything it could to get services back on schedule, but was unable to predict whether resumption of aid distribution might be days, weeks or months away.

Speaking to reporters in New York on Wednesday, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the suffering of the people of Gaza has been “one of my top concerns.”

Ban, who has also condemned projectile attacks by Palestinians against Israeli targets near Gaza, added that he understood the “legitimate” concerns of the Israeli government and people for security and safety.

Nevertheless, “the security concern should not give any reason to neglect or abuse the humanitarian situation… and human rights,” he noted.
We can understand the Israeli actions against palestinians but then how would we understand the israeli actions against an agency like UN...Does the UN involve in any sort of rockets launching? or does the UN food aids support such actions...according to Israel..the answer could easily be YES!!!!
